Dethneas: the Crimson Hold is a former Scourge necropolis now in the possession of the death knight Soranno MacBryde and his followers.

The necropolis is physically identical to the generic types seen throughout Northrend, particularly the ones in Borean Tundra and Zul'Drak.

History[]

Dethneas: the Crimson Hold first saw action during the War Against the Scourge. It was originally stationed in the Dragonblight, but this changed when a strike force led by Soranno MacBryde stormed its halls and wrested it from the Scourge's control. MacBryde claimed it as his own, and set to work transforming the necropolis into his own base of operations.

It remained stationed in the Dragonblight throughout the war due to the lack of a lich that could (or would) pilot it. As such, its seiging was the only true action it ever saw during the war, though it did act as a flight point for adventurers aiding the war effort. The necropolis would not be moved until the war's end, when the Lich King fell.

The necropolis' Piloting Scourgestone was later given to a gnome lich that came into MacBryde's service. Thus, MacBryde ordered the necropolis moved southeast to the Western Plaguelands, over Caer Darrow, for the time being. This was only a week or so before Deathwing emerged from Deepholm and caused the Shattering that reshaped the world.

Now, Dethneas acts as the flying fortress of the Knights of the Crimson Hold, a splinter group of the Knights of the Ebon Blade that have devoted themselves to aiding the world of Azeroth and its adventurers in their own way. It is constantly being relocated to locations of import for these death knights' efforts; its last recorded location was over the Emberstone Mine in the Ruins of Gilneas.
